A Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the Neighbourhoods of North Burlington

It’s easy to see why Burlington is so often named one of the best places to live and work. From its stunning lakefront and extensive trail system to its parks, green spaces, and highly regarded schools, the city offers a lifestyle that appeals to families, professionals, and downsizers alike.

One of the things that makes Burlington so appealing is the variety of neighbourhoods it has to offer. For home buyers, choosing the right area is about more than just finding the right house; it’s about finding the lifestyle, amenities, and sense of community that feel like the right fit.

As long-time Burlington realtors, we’ve had the opportunity to buy and sell homes across many of the city’s most sought-after neighbourhoods, and each one has its own character and charm. In this article, we’re taking a closer look at a few standout neighbourhoods in North Burlington and what makes them so attractive to buyers.

For the purposes of this article, we’re defining North Burlington as the area north of Highway 403. More specifically, we’ll be focusing on three neighbourhoods that continue to stand out for buyers: Millcroft, Headon Forest, and Tyandaga. Each offers something a little different, but all three are well-established, desirable communities that showcase the best of North Burlington living!

Welcome to Millcroft

The Millcroft neighbourhood was originally developed in the 1980’s on agricultural land featuring historic sawmills, (hence the name). Today, this mature neighbourhood winds and weaves around the Millcroft Golf Course, offering executive single-family homes, townhouses and condos throughout.

Millcroft is a family-centric neighbourhood with three terrific, top-rated elementary schools within its borders. Kids walking to and from school, golfers crossing the road, and families walking the dog are daily sights as you drive through the community.

Millcroft Park is one of many parks and the largest of the public green spaces, with a splash pad and three baseball diamonds, tennis courts, a soccer pitch and a charming, wooded trail. This park serves as a hub for sports and recreation activities.

Major grocers and shopping plazas are on all sides of the residential neighbourhood for convenience and easy access, along with proximity to both the 403 or 407 for commuters. Millcroft homes offer large lots and beautiful gardens for growing families and charming golf course towns for active professionals and downsizers alike. If you’re looking for a stellar community to live in, Millcroft is worth a visit.

Welcome to Headon Forest

This family-oriented neighbourhood gets its name from an early settler called Thomas Headon, who built a homestead here in the 1840s. In fact, one of Burlington’s oldest properties, Ireland House, dating back to 1837, now serves as a museum within the Headon Forest community.

Well known for its quiet, tree-lined streets, Headon Forest is home to excellent schools, churches and expansive green spaces like Ireland Park. This vast park offers walking trails, baseball diamonds, tennis and pickleball courts, and play areas, along with tranquil nature and access to a multi-use path that runs right through the center of the community.

Headon Forest is located close to highways 407 and 403 and is served by multiple public transit bus routes. The community offers a mix of detached family-sized homes, townhomes and low-rise condos. The Headon Forest Shopping Centre provides convenient access to everyday essentials, casual dining choices and coffee shops. If you are looking for a well-established suburban haven, Headon Forest is a great choice.

Welcome to Tyandaga

If one golf course community were not enough, the Tyendaga neighbourhood delivers with a second public golf course surrounded by the spectacular Bruce Trail, Kerncliff Park and City View Park. The Tyandaga golf course opened in 1963, making it the first built of the Burlington golf courses. Paired with the Tyendaga Tennis Club, this recreational haven is owned and maintained by the City of Burlington and is accessible to all.

Homes in Tyandaga mainly consist of large estate-style properties on large, lush lots. The neighbourhood is close to Highway 403, Brant Street and Dundas Street, providing easy access in and out of the community. The nearby trails and hilly terrains make it a favourite destination of nature lovers.

Shopping and dining needs are satisfied by the nearby Burlington Power Center, Costco and the Mapleview Mall

This mature northwest neighbourhood is well known for its proximity to nature and its stunning views of Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment. If you are looking for a mature and upscale family neighbourhood, Tyandaga checks all the boxes.
